Waggonner to speak at TEDxNOLA

David Waggonner has been invited to present at TEDxNOLA, an independently organized event affiliated with the TED: Ideas Worth Spreading series.  Presenters will speak about Crisis and Creativity, or the way crises – like the natural and anthropogenic threats facing New Orleans today – create opportunities for positive change and innovation.    TEDxNOLA describes itself as “a local, self-organized conference convened in New Orleans to explore the pivotal role that crisis plays in the development of groundbreaking ideas. On August 27th, 2010, Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre will host the world’s most visionary intellects as they join their contemporaries in New Orleans to examine these opportunities that find their origins in adversity.”

Waggonner will address the idea of Living with Water, including how New Orleans is a “water city that has denied itself” and how the embrace of water in practical and symbolic terms is crucial to sustainable delta urbanism.  Other presenters include New Orleans’s Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, restaurateur John Besh, Tulane President Scott Cowen, and leaders from environmental and cultural advocacy groups in the region.  All presentations will be available online following the event at tedxnola.com.  The event will take place on Friday, August 27th at 9 am.  Additional event and ticket information can be found at the organizer’s website.
